The spiritual beginning of our gallery dates back to August 8, 2020, though its story reaches much further into the past. The building is as ancient as the surrounding Old Town itself. Yet now, fully restored, the former structure stands ready to become a home for what it was perhaps always destined for: art. This place is the very heart of Szentendre—a heart-shaped “island” encircled by Kör Street at the focus of winding, meandering alleys. These streets fan out like arteries to every corner of the city, delivering life-giving energy throughout. It is a sacred place where the Earth’s energies surge to the surface and flow into the realm above. A forest of church steeples surrounds it, safeguarding its tranquility and protecting it from disharmony and chaos, no matter where they might threaten from. Standing guard like giant sentinels, their bells strike the hours to mark the passage of time for the existence slumbering here. For here, life slows down and the heartbeat softens, even as time marches inexorably onward outside. Here, the soul opens wide and turns inward—becoming at once a part of the Universe and a whole unto itself.
